Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
